Assembled From 1987 To Present, This Delton Collection Is A Representation Of A Little
Known, But Historically Significant, Model Train Manufacturer From Delton, Michigan.
Founded By Bob Schuster In 1982, Delton Locomotive Works Captured The
“Golden Age” Of America’s Narrow-Gauge Railroading.
There Has Always Been Something Magical About An Oncoming Train. Since The Birth Of
Railroads, People Of All Ages, Worldwide, Have Been Fascinated By The Old Locomotives As A
Romantic And Powerful Form Of Travel. Regrettably, That “Golden Age” Of Travel Is No Longer
With Us. However, Delton Locomotive Works Centered Its Premise Around That Era When
Railroading Was “King,” And Successfully Gives All Of Us A Glimpse, Through Their Models, Of What
That “Golden Age” Was Like.
Lenny Sloboda Preserved Delton’s Premise And Legacy By Collecting A Representation Of Each Version And Variation Of All The Delton Models Produced During Delton’s Reign As A Model Railroad Industry Leader. It Is A True, Lifetime Monumental Accomplishment That Has No Equal And It Never Will.
The Entire Delton History Can Also Be Relived Through Three Prestigious Delton Books Lenny
Sloboda Has Written And Published That Capture And Showcase Delton’s Entire History And Legacy.
This Is A Never-Seen-Before Collection
So Exquisite And Rare It Is Priceless
Enjoy A Tour Through This Website As It Highlights A Small Sampling Of The Colorful
Items This One-Of-A-Kind Collection Has To Offer.
At The End Of This Presentation View A Group Of Seven Brilliant, Unpainted And
Undecorated Brass Engines, Commonly Referred To As:
“Delton’s Magnificent Seven”
They Represent The Seven Wheel Arrangements That Delton Locomotive Works Incorporated
Into The Production Of Their Ever Popular Brass Locomotives.
A Group Like No Other
Lenny Sloboda’s Delton Locomotive Works collection showcases the “Golden Age” that Delton re-created through their models. Assembled from 1987 to present, it is the history and legacy of a unique, “Made in the USA” company, founded in 1982 by Bob Schuster from Delton, Michigan, whose goal was to pursue the “Cadillac” line of the marketplace and manufacture high-quality, 1:24 scale, brass model trains that no other company was doing. He wanted to fill a niche that appealed to anyone, anywhere who enjoyed the world of quality brass model trains. Eventually Schuster sold his interest in Delton to a shareholder and moved to Orlando, Florida, to open the World’s largest G gauge layout. To this day, Schuster still maintains an interest in trains, and can be found worldwide, designing and implementing 5/8 scale, 2’ gauge theme park train rides.

This incredible collection consists of 995 individual items, plus extra copies of the original “DELTON LOCOMOTIVE WORKS COLLECTOR'S EDITION” book, extra model parts, and other paraphernalia, for a combined total of 6,315 pieces. It contains not only items from the original Delton company, but also from Caledonia Express and Early American Trains, whose connection to Delton was the acquisition and selling of remaining Delton inventory and honoring of Delton warranties.

Many notables in this collection include, not only models representative of each version and variation produced, but 68 one-of-ones, 38 one-of-twos, an astonishing array of special limited runs, 32 prototypes and 22 paint samples. Also included are many unusual and unique items such as a brass “Fire Engine With Horses,” and personal possessions belonging to Delton founder, Bob Schuster, such as an original framed photograph featuring his first two brass Breckenridge locomotives and his hand written production ledger.

In addition to the above, other items worthy of mention are extras such as model display boxes, model display cradles and model packaging labels. There are advertisement items that include dealer price lists, brochures, magazine ads and catalogs. Correspondence items include memos, letters, news releases, certificates and newsletters. And miscellaneous items include book awards, production lists, and magazines featuring Delton ads, stories and reviews, all properly identified and protected in easy-to-view, clear-vinyl covers, and each grouped in professionally labeled binders.

One surprising, but very appropriate item included in this collection is an encased architectural model of a Delton Locomotive Works Museum, envisioned and designed by Lenny Sloboda, to house and display the entire collection for the public. The museum model design incorporates a Delton Box Car and Caboose, with customized interiors and shelving, to portray how the models would be showcased. The museum concept also includes a replica of a Victorian era depot, designed to house administrative offices, and an elaborate display of wooden floors, walkways and stairs lead to an outdoor courtyard, featuring two gazebos and two working model train layouts. Colorful designed brochures highlighting the features intended for this museum are included as well.

The Centerpiece Of The Collection, Of Course, Is The Very First Delton Locomotive Works Brass
Model, The “Breckenridge,” Serial Number 001, Personally Hand-Crafted And Signed By Bob
Schuster. It Had Remained With The Schuster Family As A Family Heirloom And Was Eventually
Passed On To Lenny Sloboda As A Tribute For His Loyalty And Efforts For Carrying On The
Delton Locomotive Works Legacy.
images/5-D-&-RG-0-6-0-Black.jpg
The models are in mint condition, and the locomotives never operated on any layout. However, they were briefly tested to be certain the motors and the lights worked and the gears meshed. The reason these models should only be displayed and never run is because serious collectors and investors, alike, enjoy them for what they really are, “Museum Quality, True Collectible Works Of Art,” and any collectible that is classified as such should only be viewed and preserved ... never run.
Even though Sloboda has been solicited many times to sell individual models and specific groups of his collection to various collectors, investors, and notable auction houses specializing in rare model train collections, he refused because he realized the collection was too valuable and priceless to divide among many, and the overall concept of the collection is better served by preserving it as one unit, so the Delton Legacy can live on forever.  All the years of hard work Sloboda dedicated to assemble his collection would be in vain, plus the collection would certainly not maintain its exclusivity and legacy, if it were divided.
This exquisite Delton Locomotive Works Collection, created by Lenny Sloboda, is the result of one man’s dream, which became a mission to purchase and preserve the most comprehensive Delton collection in the world, containing each version and variation, of all the Delton products manufactured during Delton’s reign as a model railroad industry leader.
It is truly One-Of-A-Kind and can never be duplicated or even approximated, due to the scarcity and rarity of the items contained within. The desirability of the collection is unquestionable, and it easily qualifies for recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records. The probability that this remarkable achievement exists is truly an amazing story, and the potential for future publicity is unlimited. Its notoriety and value will only increase, making it a very attractive investment, especially since most Delton models are hoarded by collectors and investors and have become so scarce that they are never, if ever, seen in public.
The Uniqueness And Worth Of The Sloboda Delton Collection Arises Not Only From The Value Of Each Individual Item Within, But Also In The Comprehensiveness And Scope Of The Collection As A Whole. It Is A True, Life Time Achievement Representing Years Of Dedication, And Is Offered For Sale As A Single Lot, For The Appraised Value Of $1,250,000.00.
